Reverb 18 – Try

December 18 – Try
What do you want to try next year? Is there something you wanted to try in 2010? What happened when you did / didn’t go for it?
(Author: Kaileen Elise)

First things first, I don’t like the word “try”. It suggests failure is an option. You see, I studied NLP last year so I tend to avoid self-defeating words like this, where possible. So, for me, I either do something, or I don’t. Trying sounds like hard work. I don’t like to work too hard on things I don’t like.

So, for the prompt, 2011 is the big writing year. I want to write a new story for The Age Short Story Competition, which closes around August.

I was planning on submitting a story this year but just didn’t because the memoir came up – a far bigger project. The funny thing is that I submitted an old story to a few journals and one of them, The Litterbox Magazine, picked it up so I will definitely do this again in 2011, with The Age the biggest one I’ll go for.
